Retail sales job generally require selling many different things in a retail store. Whether they sell shoes, clothes, home appliances or even automobiles, a retail sales person generally give assistance to customer finding the product that they are looking for and at the same time try to interest them in purchasing merchandise.

The retail sales industry is continuously developing and evolving as more and more consumers spend hundreds of dollars every day on merchandise. Work in this industry can be fairly easy due to the fact that the sales agent does not have to find client to sell the products; it is the customers who go in the store to check the products. Thus, it is very important that retail sales person give importance on delivering and providing good customer service in order to be competitive. Most customers prefer buying in a store where the staff is receptive and courteous.

It is also important for a retail sales person to show confidence in and knowledge of the products that he or she is selling. The retail sales person not only assists the customer in finding the product they need, but the sales person must also describe the product feature, demonstrate its use, and even show various models.

Apart from assisting customers, a retail sales job also entails the sales person to make out sales checks, receive cash, debits, or credit card as payments. The sales agent must also handle returns and exchanges of the purchased merchandise and at the same time keep the work area clean by preparing the store display, or arranging the products on the shelves.
