Job Description for Salespersons

Sales is the activity that involves selling products or services in exchange for money or any other compensation that the client and the provider can agree on. Sales is not the same as marketing, though the two go hand in hand. Sales is more of a persuasive activity, and involves closer interaction with clients than marketing.

People who work in sales are called salespersons, brokers, agents, or sales managers. Depending on the field, these sales agents have different ways of fulfilling their duties. Real estate salespersons, for example, assist clients in buying or selling goods. Pharmaceutical salespersons need to know science and medical-related information to be able to sell their products to doctors and hospitals.

Salespersons can go about sales in different ways. However, all sales persons must know what the product or service they are selling is all about. Salespersons won't be able to sell their product effectively if they do not know its features.

There are many kinds of salespersons, with different kinds of jobs. Sales brokers or seller agents, for example, are the traditional salespeople that we know. These are salespeople who represent their company or employers and try to make a deal with their client.

Transaction brokers are the people who don't represent either of the parties involved in the purchase. They are usually involved in large transactions. The opposite of this is the disclosed dual agent, who represents both sides and is interested in making sure that both parties get a fair deal out of the exchange.

There are also the sales managers whose job is to actually implement sales strategies and other management techniques. They help coordinate the sales and marketing departments of their company, as well as manage the performance of the salespersons under them.
